Dear St. Monica School Families,

Summer keeps moving along and so have the School House Reserve Renovations. We are very excited to share with you this update.

Progress on the renovations continues at a great pace. Since the last update in June, the construction crew has excavated and laid a new concrete foundation for the south portico. The south portico was then enclosed, framed, drywalled, and painted to accommodate the new principal’s office. The new assistant principal’s office, the school reception office, the teachers’ lounge, clinic, and restrooms have also been fully drywalled and painted. 

In an effort to highlight our building’s architectural beauty and historical significance, interior arches were framed out to build interior walls. These walls have been completely drywalled and plastered and add to the unique, scholastic design of our school building. Furthermore, to preserve the classical features of the building, all columns, arched ceilings, and scrolling were covered with plywood to avoid damage during the renovations. The construction crew has done a tremendous job preserving these architectural features of our school. You can view some of these features in the pictures below.

To improve school security, a new sliding security window has been installed in the school office, so school administrative staff can easily view all visitors to the building. Additionally, the vestibule doors have been reinforced to provide even better security and the new dual door entry way allows for further screening of visitors before they enter the main school building.

Going forward, work has begun on installing the flooring, interior doors, and fixtures. We are still on track to complete the project in mid-August, just in time for the school year. Please take some time to view the pictures of the progress. We are so proud of what has been accomplished already and look forward to unveiling the final product soon.
