Diane Shumaker enjoys working with students and watching them grow intellectually and spiritually. She is currently pursuing a lay ministry certificate at Cardinal Stritch University. This is her seventh year teaching at St. Monica School. She feels that it is her calling to be a teacher. Diane loves teaching Religion, Social Studies. and Math(not currently). "Teaching is a second career for me. I was a banker in the first part of my life, and want students to know the opportunities that Math can provide for you. " My first passion is sharing Church History as well as the culture and history of different people. Understanding history helps to promote tolerance and understanding". Mrs. Shumaker says that the best part about being a teacher is watching students grow in their faith. So far, her favorite teaching memory is sharing prayers with students on her prayer rug. She also enjoys reading their theological reflections on their faith. " I love being a part of the South Dakota trip with the eighth graders in the spring. "It gives the students a whole new perspective of the world. As an indigenous person Ifeel a special connection for the Native American people".
St. Francis said "Preach the Gospel at all times. If necessary use words."
Every day love corners me somewhere and surrounds me with peace without having to look very far or very hard or do anything special.-Thomas Merton
